Since joining Nightmare on Helm Street last month Detroit Hockey Report has been dormant and I have been thinking about what to do with the site since.

If you or someone you know has a passion for the Red Wings or other Michigan Hockey Teams such as the Wolverines, Spartans or Griffins send me an email with a writing sample or link to something you have written to detroithockeyreport@gmail.com

I am looking for multiple writers of all ages, gender and level of fandom to write daily, weekly or even monthly.

Big Announcement!!!

I would like to thank all my loyal readers here at DHR. In the short time I have been doing this I have enjoyed every minute of it, met some great people and had many many great conversations about the greatest team on ice.

I am pleased to announce that I will be joining the incredible team over at Nightmare on Helm Street. So if you like what I did here, then come on over and enjoy it and many other great reads and fun photos from the extremely talented bunch that make NOHS the best Red Wings site on the web. Who knows where Hulktuzzi will turn up next

It is still not yet determined what will become of DHR. One thing that I have thrown around is turning it into a Minor / Collegiate site for all the wonderful hockey teams that grace the state of Michigan. I of course will be turning my focus and attention to NOHS so if anyone is interested in taking the reigns here just let me know and I am sure we can work something out.

Red Wings Topple the Bulin Wall, Howard Puts Up His Own

The Detroit Red Wings extended their win streak to three last night with Jimmy Howard’s second shutout in three games. Drew Miller, Nick Kronwall and Valtteri Filppula were your goal scorers last night.

Jimmy Howard is vaulting up the charts with his stellar play of late. In the Wings current win streak, Howard is 3-0 with a 0.67 GAA, .972 SV% and 2 shutouts, bringing his season totals to 7-3-1, 1.63 GAA, .934 SV% and 3 shutouts. He is on pace to go 40-17 with 17 shutouts.

Valtteri Filppula is also showing that he belongs in Detroit’s top-6 for the long haul, playing mostly with Johan Franzen has proven a plus for both of them as Filppula has 11 points (3G, 8A) and leads the team with a +9 rating. Detroit Red Wings take on the Edmonton Oilers

The Detroit Red Wings take on the Edmonton Oilers tonight at the Joe. Game starts at 7:30 on FSD.

Edmonton has spent the last few season in the NHL cellar, the product of being bad for so long is a trio of forwards that have been lights out for the Oil this season. Jordan Eberle (22nd in 2008), Taylor Hall (1st in 2010) and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (1st in 2011) along with Veteran Ryan Smyth provide the offense for Edmonton.

The Edmonton Oilers are 9-4-2, good enough for 3rd in the west. The real story behind their impressive start to the season is not so much the play of the 3 kids, but that of veteran goalie Nikolai Khabibulin who was thought to be on his way to retirement after a messy few seasons. Red Wings vs Avalanche: Detroit Looking to Start a New Streak Tonight

Quick one today as I will be in a time crunch to get ready for college basketball starting Friday at work.

The Detroit Red Wings take on the slumping Colorado Avalanche tonight at the Joe starting at 7:30pm on FSD. The Wings are looking to start a win streak tonight by continuing the stellar play they exhibited on Saturday in their 5-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks.

Colorado is winless in their last 3 games, but boast the leagues best power play at 26.7%. Detroit will be without Bertuzzi (illness) and Eaves (back) tonight, along with Commodore who will be the healthy scratch on defense. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…

Detroit Red Wings: The Deals That Ended the Drought

Over the last two decades the Detroit Red Wings have been a dominate force in the NHL, More specifically the last 15 years have seen the Red Wings capture the crowned jewel of all sports trophies the Stanley Cup 4 times.

Detroit has been somewhat lucky when it comes to the draft. They snagged Nick Lidstrom in the 3rd round (53rd), and Sergei Fedorov in the 4th round (74th) during the 1989 draft. Steve Yzerman was a consolation prize after Detroit lost out on Pat Lafontaine in 1983. To win a championship you sometimes need to add a few pieces to put your team over the top. Lidstrom, Franzen and Howard Get the Job Done For Detroit

If you are going to stop your six game winless streak do it with style. Jimmy Howard shutout the Anaheim Ducks last night at the Joe while Nick Lidstrom (2G, A) and Johan Franzen (G, 2A) led the way to a 5-0 blanking that showed us what this team can really play like when it’s really clicking. Red Wings vs Ducks: Lets Break This Slump Averman!

Detroit 0-5-1 in their last six have not gone winless in seven while Nick Lidstrom has worn the Winged Wheel. We can beat a dead horse over and over so I won’t go into a long rant on what this team needs to do or change.

Detroit Red Wings: Can we hit the panic button yet?

What a disgusting pitiful waste of talent. That’s about the only way I can feel about this team that I love so much. Chief said it best yesterday over at Abel to Yzerman that the team just doesn’t have that desire to win each night, and losing just doesn’t seem to bother them.

6 straight loses. The Wings are now at .500, 24th in the NHL, 3rd in the Central, and 7 F@*%ing points behind that $!*@stain of a team the Chicago Blackhawks.
